What do we do?
Our remit is to actively support the employability of both undergraduate and postgraduate students at the University of Manchester. This means providing support and opportunities to help you get where you want to be when you graduate – and yes, that does mean we support medical students as well!
So what does our work include?
- One to one careers advice to University of Manchester students and graduates (within three years of graduation) either during 15 minute ‘Quick Query’ sessions run every day (great for advice on CVs and applications) or half hour careers guidance appointments. We can even offer practice interviews to provide feedback and advice on your interview performance.
- Written publications and resources (free to download or pick up from the Careers Resource Centre on campus).
- The Manchester Leadership Programme, an undergraduate programme combining an academic unit (available as 10 or 20 credit) on leadership for sustainability with 60 hours of volunteer work. For the lowdown on the benefits of the programme, see this students’ video.
- Providing access to volunteering opportunities through Manchester Student Volunteers. Put something back into the community and develop evidence of skills to put on that all important foundation application form!
- Delivering events and workshops tailored to faculties and schools on career development and skills such as; exploring career choices, writing a winning CV, selling yourself in an application form and boosting your employability.
- Providing a whole programme of talks and workshops from a range of sectors.
- Organising large scale recruitment and information fairs including the Postgraduate Study Fair every November and the Kaleidoscope Fair for opportunities in the public and social sector, charities and voluntary sector including international opportunities.
